Diabetes Education Program at EPCH

El Paso Children’s Hospital offers a Diabetes Education Program that empowers children and their families to manage their diabetes. Through this program diabetes educators teach, coach and guide patients and families so they understand their diabetes and how it affects their personal lives. Diabetes Educators work with patients and families to set (and meet) behavior change goals to improve their health.

At least 1.25M Americans are living with T1D including about 200,000 youth (less than 20 years old) and 1 in 400 children are diagnosed with T1D or T2D each year.

Research has shown that people who receive diabetes education are more likely to:
•Use primary care and preventive services
•Take medications as prescribed
•Control their blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels
•Have lower health costs
•Have less frequent hospital readmission
