Another Holiday Hazard-Free Tip from West Texas Regional Poison Center
Christmas decorations: Wax candles and most tree ornaments are considered nontoxic.
However, besides cuts, glass ornaments can be a choking hazard if swallowed.
Older ornaments may contain lead paint and children shouldn’t be allowed to play with
these for fear of having them put them in their mouth. Angel hair is spun glass and can
also be severely irritating upon contact. While the liquid in snow globes is generally non-toxic, bacteria
may grow in it and cause vomiting or diarrhea if swallowed. Snow sprays may cause nausea, vomiting,
headache, and drowsiness if the fumes are inhaled.
