En Voz Alta was started by Mary Ceglio, In August of 2004, in an effort to bring children with hearing loss and their families together.  However, the parents of children with hearing loss who attended the first meeting, wanted more than just a social outlet.  They wanted to further the developmental, educational, social and emotional growth of children with hearing impairment through education, advocacy and support.

In May of 2005, En Voz Alta was introduced to area professionals at a luncheon sponsored in conjunction with Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.  An alliance between the parents of En Voz Alta and the professionals of the community was formed and committees were established.

As a result, En Voz Alta held three bi-national symposiums on hearing loss in El Paso in November 2006, February 2010 and March 2014 in cooperation with:

  • Early Childhood Intervention (E.C.I.)
  • Region 19 Education Service Center
  • Regional Day School Program for the Deaf
  • Paso Del Norte Children’s Development Center
  • Regional Day School Program for the Deaf
  • Southwest ENT Associates
  • Texas Tech Health Sciences Center
