Baby Mya

As a Level IV NICU El Paso Children’s Hospital provides family centered care for infants of all gestational ages including the most critical infants with the most complex medical problems.

Today we are sharing the journey of baby Mya who is now a year old.

A letter from Mya’s Mom:

Mya was born on November 14, 2016 at 15:48 in Las Cruces, NM being only 22 weeks and 6 days. She weighed 550grams (1lb 2oz). She was then transported to El Paso Children’s Hospital.

We stayed in the NICU for 5.5 months with a total of 165 days spent in the NICU. This was my first time having a baby as well as being in the NICU.

My Journey in the NICU was full of ups and downs although I have worked in the NICU with premature babies as a Respiratory Therapist, it is completely different when it’s your own baby. I feel that my experience in the NICU was good and scary all at the same time. My days were filled with all kinds of emotions of knowing and not knowing what to expect or what could or couldn’t happen with Mya. I am extremely grateful to the transport team who picked us up and provided her with the best care on the way to EPCH. I am extremely grateful to all the Nursing Staff, Respiratory Staff and all the Physicians for all the excellent care, love and compassion that they gave to Mya. I will never be able to repay them for all the love and care that they gave to Mya.

Today Mya is a year old, and she is doing great. She is babbling, learning to eat baby cereal with a spoon and trying to suck on her toes. She is such a miracle to me and I am amazed by her progress and strength every day. I can honestly say I’m truly blessed to have this experience.

Thank you Monique and Mya for being part of the EPCH family!
