Holiday Hazards presented by West Texas Regional Poison Center

Keep your family safe this holiday season. Here’s a great tip:

Holiday Travel – If you have young children and are visiting the homes of family or friends, be especially careful as their homes may not be child-proofed. You may find that medications may be left out on the kitchen table, on a nightstand, or in a purse out of habit. Additionally, daily/weekly medicine boxes are not child-resistant. Other concerns include household cleaners that may be readily available under a sink or in a hallway closet. Curious children may find pesticides, lighter fluid, and other harmful chemicals in a garage or toolshed. Be sure to keep a close eye on your children throughout the visit. If staying over for a few days, offer to help poison-proof their home during your stay.
